A June 22 referendum asks villagers to authorize 703000 in bonds funded by state motor fuel taxes. Polls open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Grant White Garfield Field Stevenson Betsy Ross schools to decide on pavement curbs sidewalks and related improvements.
Seven local groups including Lions Kiwanis Youth Commission Infant Welfare Little League V F W and American Legion will receive half of McDonald’s gross on Friday June 18 at the Des Plaines Madison outlet. Manager Ernest Cochanis hopes supporters boost the draw while TV figure Ned Locke greets customers.
Mary Margaret Casey of Marengo and a Proviso East graduate has been admitted to the Illinois Institute of Technology. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Casey she plans to major in physics.
Dorothy F Scheu D N of 1022 Hannah was invited by the American Association of Doctor s Nurses to serve on its Decade of Health Committee. The panel will promote health projects and publicize services from agencies like the Cancer Society Fund and the T B Foundation.
Janes A. Sindelar was named manager of the Park District Swimming Pool for the coming season. A Principia College graduate, he studied English and education with a physical education minor and played football and baseball in college. He has extensive pool experience as lifeguard and instructor and has served as assistant manager and head swimming coach at Downers Grove and La Grange Field Club.
Park District President John Hanley announced staffing and facility updates for the 1965 pool season. James Sindelar is appointed pool manager with new curtains, faster inspection procedures, and sale of season passes. Otto Zeman leads head lifeguards with a full team including Aldridge Beard Pons onby Smith White. Violet Garbers nurses. Lillian Kiss man cashier. Elsie Jacobs women’s checker.
Boys from the Thatcher Woods Council spread across multiple camps this summer with 1300 expected at Camp Shin Go Beek in Wisconsin. Forty to be encamped at the Worlds Fair with several on Canadian trips and 50 at the National Scout Ranch at Cimarron New Mexico.
Mayor Howard Muir denounces a weekend flyer signed Forest Park Civic Committee as false and attacks on the village improvement program. The council notes low turnout while approving May meter collections and appointing John Farrell to the Health Board.
