Spectators were reminded that the Forest Park Blood Assurance Program will host a second blood draw this Saturday at the Armed Forces Reserve Center on Roosevelt Road from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The goal is 226 pints, after a 169 pint first draw on March 13.
The Forest Park Chamber of Commerce sponsors a Saturday Sidewalk Sale with events on both sides of Madison Street from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contests include cake decorating trunk at 10 a.m., Bicentennial costume at noon, pet grooming at 7 p.m., and bicycle decorating at 4 p.m. Prizes total 50 to 5 dollars. Local crafts, watercolors, antiques, and collectibles will be sold, with a jazz ensemble performing at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Also on display are motor homes, a three piece eight track stereo, a flower exhibit, and a popcorn stand with cotton candy via local groups. Voter registration, free blood pressure tests, and weather contingencies are noted.
Triton's School of Continuing Education offers 42 classes for adults this summer. Registration runs June 1 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM in room R201 at the Learning Resource Center, with sessions Monday through Friday. The schedule includes typing shorthand office machines and more, plus four graduate extension courses from Northern Miracle University and Diinols State University. A one day Tournament of Champions featuring the area’s top softball team is set for June 12 at Fred O’Connor Field in the Park.
Editorial urges cycle safety as Illinois adopts bicycle rights and duties akin to motor vehicles. Emphasizes obeying traffic controls, parent responsibility to enforce rules, police powers to enforce equipment standards, and riders of all ages urged to ride defensively for safety and fun.
Forest Park Board reports slow fundraising for the town 4th of July celebration with only 2225 raised toward an estimated goal. Local businessmen and private groups have mostly funded the event though broad citizen support is urged to meet costs. Donations can be mailed to the Park District of Forest Park 7500 Harrison St Forest Park 60130. The board meets June 10 on the second floor of the Park Administration Building. meetings are open to the public.
