The Forest Park Swimming Pool will open June 15 weather permitting. The Park Board announced passes will be issued to local youths at the same rates as last year. At a Board meeting John Farrell was elected president with Mary O Connor as vice president and Joe Manone installed as Park Commissioner.
The Rev. Arnold Wulff of Gillespie, illinois, will become pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church starting July 15. He succeeds Rev. Burzloff who retires after 51 years of service. An Open House is set for Sunday at the Lutheran Salvage Center 1950 M. Madison. The center, under the Lutheran Council of Greater Chicago, welcomes goods and donations daily. The Altar and Operatory season of St. Bernardines closes May 1 with a program by Girl Scouts afterwards hosted by Dolores Dunne.
Committees from Pack 104 Betsy Ross School and Pack 105 Field Stevenson met at Field Stevenson School Cafeteria to plan the Circle Hill Derby on June 11. Racing chairman Frank Crowe said preparations proceed with Ray Duke and four others as judges. Program chair Henry R. Schlichting will offer a public address system and invited Village Council and Thatcher Woods Area Council representatives. Howard Mohr will tow racers to the hilltop and may donate the first prize trophy. Publicity chairman Robert Kerney noted driver ID timber samples and posters from a Cub Scout. Pack 105 chairman Jim Pizzuto said four racers are being built by the dens. Financial chairman John Swanson reported funds split between packs. Racer cost averages 26 dollars including wheels. some cars use official Derby wheels at 15.50 per set. No commitment yet from the Weather Bureau for fair weather on Sunday June 11.
Recreation Board warns the public after a younger player’s death in Park Ridge. They urge youths to avoid hardball and indicate the park is available for safer play.
Comm Mike Lambke condemned eight men in boots blue jeans and cowboy hats who kept hats on during the Star Spangled Banner and the invasion. He suggested they be rounded up and sent back to the Confederacy making a local wartime style rebuke.
The Forest Lions club will show the three hour program Weapons for Defense presented by Illinois Bell Telephone at Tuesday’s meeting. It has been well received nationwide. Lunch will be a charcoal grilled meal at the Pines. Members should bring guests and reserve with secretary Frank Stanek at FO. 6-1060.
Ten year old Michael Casey of 1111 Marenga suffered a bad holiday when a baseball mitt was broken by wrestlers at the Park. He was cut by glass, needed nine stitches, and was rushed to the hospital. While recovering, his glove was stolen, leaving him very downcast over the loss of his treasured possession.
Forest Park VFW Post joins a nationwide program selling flag kits priced at three dollars. Each kit includes a 50 star 2 by 5 inch cotton flag with sewn stripes, 6 foot wooden pole, ball top, halyard, and metal bracket. Call FO 6 1278 or YO 4638 to order. Commander William Sisson urges every home to display the flag on patriotic holidays.
Otta Sebesta of Bll Circle will retire from Western Electric Hawthorne Works June 1 after over 25 years as a machinist in Plant and Technical Service. Mr and Mrs Sebesta will stay in Forest Park and spend summers at Pistakee Lake cottage. they have a daughter and four grandchildren.
A thief dipped into the Big Dip cash register at 7319 Roosevelt and escaped with 4 dollars in coins Thursday night.
Proviso East High School will graduate 649 seniors on June 14 at 8 p.m. Tickets required for admission. Class president Hannah will speak on Tomorrow We Lead. Donna Zimmerman directs the orchestra with Mendelssohn music for the processional and recessional. Dr. Holt presents the class to Robert A. Young for diplomas.
Nora Martha Borchardt graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing on Sunday May 2 in Peoria. She is the daughter of Alfred Borchardt and the late Mrs Borchardt of 307 Desplaines. Norma also graduated from Walther Lutheran High School.
Forest Park prepares for its second annual sidewalk sale drawing thousands from the west side. Merchants offer street displays with bargains and free items including balloons ice cream bars and hot dogs. Free parking is provided all day and into the evening while forecasts promise warm weather with a rain plan for Friday June 9.
The Welcome Wagon Newcomers Club invites newcomers to its final meeting of the club year at noon on June 3 at 7412 Harrison. The group notes its contributions to Infant Welfare Society Forest Park Salvation Army and other charities. Girls have donated time to Multiple Sclerosis Cancer Drive Mental Health Drive and Doughnut Day.
Forest Park pool hosts the Chicago Red Cross Water Safety training with two courses starting June 19. Water Safety Instructor and Senior Life Saving run 9 a.m. to noon on consecutive weekdays through June 30, free of charge, with registration on opening day.
Judith Sandelin of 13 Circle and Mike Williams of 133 Rockford have been named State Scholars by the Illinois Scholarship Commission. They will receive financial assistance or honorary scholarships to Illinois schools of their choice.
Murphy 909 Beloit Beloit area resident Robert Murphy will receive his bachelor science degree on June 10 at a formal university ceremony in Normal Illinois.
