Fire Saturday at 613 Thomas destroyed the home and contents in a kitchen blaze sparked by cooking oil left unattended during doughnut making. Neighbors and the fire crew fought the flames as flaming oil spread. investigators examined response time and fumes from plastic tiles.

Needs Cars For Orphans Outing In Lincoln Park

Council notes report a bid of 1 211 for converting the village hall to gas heating awarded to Mele Plumbing and Heating at 7638 Madison. Mayor Will Meer says Forest Park streets between Lehmen and Jackson will be repaired this summer as motor fuel tax projects proceed. Six bids for the village garage project were paid over.

John Kwiatt Retires From Naval Ordnance Plant

John S. Kwiatt of 1105 Thomas retired June 30 after more than 20 years in federal service. He began at the Naval station in 1943 and spent 18 years at the Forest Park Activity as a machinist, performing those duties until retirement.

Forest Park Little League All-Stars Tourney Schedule

The Forest Park Little League All-Star team opens tournament play on Wednesday July 26 against Leyden at Hillside Field behind Melody Top Theater. If victorious they advance Thursday at Bellwood National Field with subsequent games Friday and Saturday at River Forest Field on Lake Street.

Third Break-in At Park Building

The Park Building suffers its third break-in in three weeks. Sunday night unknowns tampered with the concession stand breaking locks, spilling syrup and popcorn, damaging a soda machine and stealing candy worth about 250 dollars. Also criminals forced entry to the swimming pool guns locker room vending machines and cashier cage taking about 10 dollars in cash and other items. Park officials blame youths and urge stricter curfew enforcement while park operations consider adding night watch or alarms as current patrol ends at 11 p.m.

Village Finances Improve After Unanticipated Revenue

Village Auditor Mike Lambke told the Council the village operated in the black last year aided by an unexpected 60000 revenue and traffic fines reaching 82000. Departments tightened belts and bonds for the Forest Park lot are nearly paid, with only 1700 remaining to retire this year.

Proviso Township Officials Golf Outing Set at St Andrews

The Proviso Municipal League announces its annual Golf Outing at St Andrews on Wednesday August 2. Tickets cost 3.50 for golf 6.50 for dinner or 10.00 for both. Eggebrecht Heads Bataan Day Parade in Maywood

Robert F. Eggebrecht of Winfield Scott Post VFW 233 Desplaines will be parade marshal for Bataan Day on Sept 17. About 12 divisions and 200 units will line up at Bataan Drive and 5th Maywood at 1 30 pm. The parade ends with a pageant of drums at Proviso East stadium at 7 30 pm and awards for the Bert C Young Memorial Cup.
