Street Light Vote Saturday
Six people were hurt when a scavenger truck struck a station wagon on the Eisenhower Expressway. The truck crossed multiple lanes, overturned on the westbound embankment, and was towed away after about an hour as traffic stalled for miles. George Schaefer, 52, Chicago, suffered a broken neck and several fractured ribs. Kermit Carr, Chicago, driver of the truck, had minor injuries and was charged with speeding and driving on a revoked license. Traffic did not return to normal until nearly three hours after the crash.

Forest Park residents back street lighting referendum
A Forest Park town meeting drew about 125 taxpayers as Chamber of Commerce and Condominium Owners Association leaders urged a Yes vote Saturday on a $1,560,000 street lighting upgrade. Four polling places will serve voters from 6 am to 6 pm. The plan calls for 317 new lights and 71 renovations with a 24 cent per $100 valuation tax impact, split with business and industry covering half.
