The death of Mrs. Louise Enders, owner of a life interest in a northwest Harlem and Madison corner, may trigger a sale. A 41 foot frontage on Madison Street, past attempts to buy the edge failed due to life estate terms. The Enders estate now in court, a grandson as administrator, and sale expected once settled.
The Roosevelt road widening plan from the county line to the lake gains backing from the West Park board Chicago Motor Club and Roosevelt corridor business groups. A meeting called Maculty night at the Palmer House resulted in a decision to extend street improvements along the full length.
Dr. George J. Baumgartner, long time practitioner, opens an office at 636 Roosevelt Road Oak Park after relocating from his New Laude building corner Circle and Madison. He previously served patients from his Circle Madison location.
A dinner at St John's assembly hall last Saturday honored Louis Luckers and his wife for their twenty fifth wedding anniversary. About forty guests attended, with telegrams and out of town greetings, gifts of silver, and a cake cutting reenactment. The couple and friends gathered for a festive evening with speeches and a lighthearted gift exchange.
Meeting of Forest Park village council discussed a water hydrant plug in front of 632-634 Desplaines avenue used as a joke during former mayor Muchlenhaupt’s administration. Parking violations near hydrants sparked protests and a possible test case in Judge Witt’s court. A settlement was offered: Muchlenhaupt to pay half the removal cost. Judge Witt imposed a $5 fine plus costs.
The Roosevelt Road Civic Association and Chamber of Commerce join the Community Picnic planning at Dellwood Park on August 1. Judge Paul R. Witt chairs the prize committee with numerous subheads and officers listed, plus a July 26 meeting at Secretary Roesenberg's office to finalize arrangements.
Public Service moves sixteen-duct underground feeder lines through the parkway on Harvard Avenue. The route runs from Oak Park west to Dunlap then north to Harrison, with plans to elevate across the river to Bellwood before grounding underground once Harriton Street opens. Roosevelt Road will be served and a branch will head to the Forest Park pumping station.
The Lande building nears completion with brickwork mostly finished and workers erecting the second and third stories. Tall ladders rise as they haul tartle to the upper floors and glass storefronts begin to form the impressive front display spaces.
The village remains agog as a full fledged Sosnik mystery promises sensational revelations. Attempts to uncover secrets have failed and Sosnik himself evades questions, leaving the town in speculation. The report notes a scattered clue at 8340 on a Wednesday morning and observers on ground floors will have the best view.
The Forest Park State Bank began Tuesday expansion work adding a rear wing and basement storage at an estimated cost around 125000. Front remains, lobby shifts back and sixteen cages replace seven, plus a 20 ton manganese steel door for vaults holding 3500 safety deposit boxes. Architect firms Hoggson Bros of New York and Chicago lead the project. The bank, run by the Roos family since its early days, has capital stock 100000 and surplus 70100 with resources near 2197850.
A handsome deer head decorates Ernest Reich's real estate office. It came from a Vermont deer shot last season by Otto Reich. The taxidermist traveled from the city to mount it and praised its lifelike quality as a standout achievement.
Jerry F. Coughlin of 2331 Madison Street expands in butchery by purchasing a fourth meat market on North York Street Elmhurst. He already operates markets in West Park Maywood Melrose Park and Elmhurst.
Commissioner Kurt Berliner, head of water and power, urges creating an artificial swimming pool for youths. He cites hot weather and polluted Des Plaines water, recalling past swimming holes and proposing excavating a city block to house a purified pool.
Kalkite, produced by the Slayter brothers from Lafayette Indiana, opens in Forest Park at 732 Roosevelt Road rear of Gardner Lumber. The plant, featuring a monster truck, will insulate old and new frame houses using vegetable fiber bonded with gypsum and injected into air spaces. Kalkite is sold as a distinctive material designed to reduce heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer.
Commissioner Branson introduces a new street roller to level Circle Avenue and nearby streets. The machine holds 500 gallons of water, weighs 600 pounds empty and 5,000 pounds full. Manhole work at Circle and Randolph proceeds, with focus on Circle as a through street and near the new post office.
A Chicago man reportedly pursues the northeast corner of Madison and Deeplaines for a family apartment hotel and stores. Otto Reich and family stopped at Copper Falls, Wis, en route to northern Minnesota. he plans to return for the business men's picnic.
Commissioner James L Brannon submitted a report to the council on his Cabhondale trip noting how southern towns operate departments such as welfare finance health streets property and water. He urged uniform audits and ordinances to curb evils and avoid state control while detailing proposed taxes on cemeteries buses and delinquent properties.
Village council convened at eight with sparse attendance then the room filled as officials arrived. The session approved six June pieman permits a St Bernardine carnival permit and a library report praising schools police and fire departments while debating tax levy and village expenditures.
A meeting of the Infant Welfare association met at the Municipal building to plan a lawn party at Licht's lawn on Thursday afternoon September 1. The committee works hard despite the distance to ensure a successful event with cards, dancing, hot dogs, candy, ice cream and a grab bag. The Republican club picnic at Ackerman's grove on August 6 funds welfare work. Donations include Daughters of Taabella and Ladies' Aid of St. Paul's Lutheran church totaling $10 and $100 respectively.
Members of the Forest Social Club anticipate their second annual picnic at Schulte Grove on Saturday July 30. Last year’s picnic was a success and they aim to repeat it with dancing and various activities in the afternoon and evening. The stove location is at Twenty-second Street and Desplaines.
