Methodist People in New Parsonage Host Parsonage Housewarming

Mrs A B Sounders hosted a housewarming at Forest Park Community Methodist Church parsonage on Hannah avenue. The brick two story home features six rooms a sleeping porch a front porch study and modern conveniences cost about 10000 with elegant furnishings and details by Mrs Saunders and Clarence Nowell. Several hundred attended with Dr and Mrs English of Oak Park offering remarks as music filled the evening and refreshments were served.

Convict Moertel and Miller linked to burglary case

George A. Moertel and Art Miller were found with nearly 500 dollars worth of goods tied to a burglary at Rieck Brothers on June 18 2010. Both men faced burglary larceny and receiving stolen property charges. burglary and larceny counts were not proven. A verdict of guilty on receiving stolen property carries one to ten years in prison. The hearing before Judge Joseph Fitch also noted a new trial motion and pending dates.

The Forest Park Athletic Club, formerly the Sleriing Athletic Club, held its first meeting at Herbert Burtar's home 7814 Madison Street to organize a baseball team. Officers none elected. President George Ward and others named. Ground set at Des Plaines Avenue and Harrison Street opposite Forest Park Amusement Park.

Forest Park Legion Post Sees Rapid Growth and Meeting

The American Legion Forest Park post 414 reports fast-growing membership and urges members to attend the next meeting to learn bout the Bona proposition outcomes. Gold Star Mothers Feed Soldiers at Oak Forest

A group of nineteen Gold Star mothers from Forest Park served 87 wounded soldiers a roast chicken dinner at Oak Forest. Fifty-eight troops joined at the table and 29 were served in bed. Organizers Mrs Lorenz Ghiman and Mrs Benjamin Sst plan future meals with community donations needed.

Burmeister Receives Marine Honor in Quantico Visit

Willan M Burmeister received an honor discharge from the Marine Corps on January 14 at Quantico Virginia and arrived in Forest Park Monday. He met with Secretary Daniels and General Lojune in Washington to receive letters of recommendation and appreciation for faithful service. Known as the globe trotter, he served in two regiments and fourteen companies and met Pershing Petain Joffre Clemenceau Wilson and Daniels during the war. Mrs Walter Healer of Forest Park reports donations for the Central European Relief and notes a community dance fund raising event on January 41 with proceeds to the relief fund.

Flames Overtake Oak Park Fire Destroys Home

A blaze at the corner of Maple Avenue and Washington Boulevard in Oak Park killed Theta Watkins, 1 year old, and injured two adults as neighbors scrambled to escape. Firefighters arrived quickly but the infant perished on the main floor while rescuers saved others, many left homeless. Local families offered shelter as investigations begin into the fire’s origin.
