First Mass Offered by Father Prescott at St Bernardine
Father Richard Prescott of St Columban's Foreign Mission Society, ordained by Cardinal Cushing, offered his first solemn Mass at St Bernardine Church on December 21. Born 1931, he is son of Catherine Hauser and Carl M. Prescott. He studied at De Paul University and joined St Columban's Seminary in 1955. After a home vacation he will resume studies before mission assignment in the Far East and South America.

Forest Park merchants report a peaceful Christmas week until Richard's Tavern visit turned chaotic when Gilbert Hopkins Jr. robbed the bar of 150 dollars, took the owner hostage, and clashed with staff and police. He was treated at Oak Park hospital then jailed in Forest Park. Separately a River Forest teen overdosed on 130 aspirin, rushed to Oak Park hospital after a priest and witnesses intervened.

Neighborhood captains for the S3 Minute March on Cerebral Palsy will distribute coin canisters in business districts this week for the Annual United Cerebral Palsy Drive. Canisters stay in stores until after the door-to-door march Sunday Jan 14 led by Mrs Edwin A Schmidt chairman. Volunteers will share civil defense info during the 53 Minute March and provide basic facts on cerebral palsy and United Cerebral Palsy services.
