Bluebird seeks new fare hikes in Illinois filings
Bluebird Coach Lines filed with the Illinois Commerce Commission for further fare increases on west suburban routes effective March 1. Adult fares would rise to 30 cents from 25, and 19 ride tokens would cost 2.50, while children's 15 cent fare remains. The proposal covers routes between Chicago and Cicero, Berwyn, Lyons, McCook, Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park, Maywood, and Bellwood. LaGrange routes are exempt. Secretary Greasar om E Phelps notes last year losses totaling 12,000 dollars despite 26,000 dollars net profit in the first eight months, with west suburban routes losing 32,000 dollars over the year, driven by heavy losses in early 1951.
