Proviso Township Abates Taxes for Seventh Straight Year
Proviso residents will pay no township taxes for 1963 as the board of town auditors led by Supervisor George W. Jaap approves full abatement of the general assistance and town fund levies. The 1963 road and bridge levy is also abated, with tax bills due in 1964 showing none for Proviso. The savings average $11 to $12 on a $300 tax bill, and the abatement applies to real estate and personal property taxes as well.

15 Year Old Hero Helps Save Family From Fire
Emergency plan and calm actions by 15 year old Robert Schulz plus his brother Bill prevented disaster in Forest Park. Robert carried 6 month old Sandra to safety from a second story window then alerted the fire department and his parents at a dance. Mayor and Mrs Mohr helped rescue the children from the porch roof as Fireman Ray Weatherford was hospitalized. Damage estimated at 5000 dollars. Neighbors offered clothing and shelter.
