15 Cent Fare Fight at Illinois Commerce Commission
The Chicago and West Towns Railways asked ICC to make the 15 cent fare permanent, arguing it keeps accounts in the black after 18 months. Berwyn’s representative opposed permanent 15 cents, suggesting a 16 cent or even 13 cent fare. The commission ordered monthly and yearly financials under the 15 cent rate and set the hearing to continue into February. General Manager Gerhardt noted a $4,000 profit in October and a $1,000 loss in September.
