The Village Council will start all meetings openly after Mayor Howard Mohr ended the prior private pre-meeting practice. An ordinance to update the garbage tax levy was introduced and debated with Council member Mike Lambke expressing surprise and a call for more study. The council plans to meet again December 27 at 7 30 p m.
St Peter Lutheran observes the final Advent Sunday with a 10 15 a m worship service. Pastor Roth delivers the morning message assisted by Pastor Landahl. The combined classes sing Ode Come Emmanuel and soprano Wilma Schuster performs Gesu Bambino. Caroling to the sick follows at 4 p m. Potluck follows. Christmas events include a 7 30 p m pageant on Dec 24 11 p m candlelight service and 10 15 a m Christmas Day worship. Regular services resume Dec 26 and New Year’s Eve worship at 8 p m.
Forest Park village council reviews charity drives amid concerns about fraud and misused donations. Attorney Edward O'Shea notes legal and feasibility issues, while Com. Vernon Reich cites reluctance to donate after learning large admin costs. A proposal requires drives to submit financial statements before consideration.
Forest Park native Terry Bishop joins the Carthage College wrestling squad in Kenosha Wisconsin as part of the school’s lineup. Bishop is listed among the college’s roster for the season.
Forest Park group met for a Christmas luncheon. Rev A Wulff presented a season themed film Love at Christmas. Miss Rose Radke of 7729 Monroe received an orchid for her 78th birthday and long service.
Desplaines at the Expressway stoplight system confuses taxpayers and forces Fire Department to reroute operations. Chief Del Marousek keeps a rapid routing plan to reach any building. Mayor Mohr laments lack of state consultation and advance notice.
St John Lutheran Sunday School at 306 Circle presents its annual Christmas program Sunday at 4 30 p.m. in the church entitled On Earth Peace featuring songs and recitations by the children including those in the Mentally retarded class. The program aims to portray the meaning of peace in the Christian life.
Fifty grandmothers gathered for a December Yule celebration bringing canned goods for needy families. The event featured a bazaar with homemade foods and gifts, a luncheon, games with prizes, and grab bag exchanges. Birthdays noted included Emma Mueller aged 83 and others born in December.
Village Council discussed rooming house permits at Monday’s meeting. Mayor Mohr seeks rigid inspections and asked Fire Chief Del Marousek to investigate. He warned many units are unsafe share-the-bath types and proposed a full time housing inspector to improve safety and insurance rating. Commissioner Lambke called them a blight on the area.

Vern Reich questions past ideas while Mike Lambkes praises winter snow cleanup. Plans include a Lehmer and Hannah interceptor sewer at estimated 107000 dollars, parking receipts for November total 4145.63.
