Forest Park announces its first Community Chest Drive opening October 1 with a $15 000 quota to be shared by four agencies Girl Scouts Boy Scouts Infant Welfare Society and Family Service Association Nine section leaders and co chairmen Rev Wallace Anderson and William Hinricks oversee the house to house effort and drive elimination of tag days to fund core services.

Pvt Norman Church Completes Radio Signal Course
Pvt Norman L Church, 19, son of Mrs Evelyn Guzo, Lyons, completed a five week radio tale operation course at the Army Southeastern Signal School Fort Gordon Georgia. The program trained him to operate radio transmitters receivers with teletypewriter gear using voice and Morse code. He joined the Army last January and completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri.

The Proviso Board of Education approved delaying the reopening by one week to finish rening of the 1910 addition. Superintendent LeRoy J. Knoppel and Assistant Superintendent C. Navy Commander Miller Takes Command At Forest Park Center
Navy Commander Charles A. Miller assumed command of the Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Training Center in Forest Park on August 1. He is the son of Mrs. Ellen Miller of Indianapolis Indiana and previously served as executive officer of the Chicago reserve training center from May 1968 to July 31 1958. He entered the Navy in 1931 with service in Panama the Philippines Bonine and Hawaii. During World War II he served aboard the submarine tender USS Seagull and later commanded the ocean tug USS LATR-52. Before Chicago he completed a world cruise aboard the USS Tarawa as gunnery officer visiting Suez Canal Australia New Zealand Ceylon Japan the Philippines Hawaii and Panama.
