Proviso Township high school will inaugurate the fall semester with Freshman Day on Wednesday Sept 5. About 1000 freshmen will pass through the doors at 4 15 AM with Big Sisters and Big Brothers aiding them.
Colonel Paul G Armstrong of the Illinois Selective Service urged local boards to grant temporary deferments to men with defense industry skills. He named tool and die makers designers and pattern makers and technicians such as chemists and engineers. Boards should review cases individually to keep deferments only while skills remain urgent.
The Recreation Board held its first meeting with newly appointed members. Robert Lambke serves as president and Carl Jackel as secretary, with Louis Melcher H Schwenke and Ray Schwald also on the board.
Pupils in grades 2 through 8 must register Friday August 31 from 9 to 11 for fees books and other charges. Regular classes start Tuesday September 4 at 8 45 with opening. Matins in church at 9 00. Kindergarten and first grade staff include Pauline Fletcher. Full faculty listed with principals and grade assignments.

Herbert J. Seegers son of Mr and Mrs H C Seegers of 439 Hannah is a candidate for a mechanical engineering degree at the University of Colorado. Commencement exercises set for this Saturday mark the schools 102nd ceremony.
