Home From Washington Visitors Return From Forks Trip
Mrs. Joseph Miller and Mrs. Anna Johnson of 419 Elgin returned Friday from two weeks in Forks Washington visiting Mr. and Mrs. William Brown. Brown a former Garfield Brade school teacher is now Forks school superintendent. Their sons Vincent and Ronald attend Washington State University. The Browns will visit next month. Touring Southwest A motor tour of the south and southwest lasts two weeks for Bernadette White Jo Lynn Carlson and Howard Roy. They visited San Antonio and will help Carlson marry John Lynch of Chicago in November. Lynch is a tactical instructor at Lackland Air Field Base. The group reports ideal vacation weather.

St John Lutheran School announces three new teachers joining as it opens September 2. William Wendling will teach Grade 5 and assist in athletics, replacing E Winter who transfers to Michigan. Ruth Hielen Rupprecht arrives as Grade 2 teacher and Birks recreation director, while Bernita Heidemann takes over Kindergarten and Grade One at the Branch School and directs the Primary Sunday School.

Frank Mangels Promoted to Corporal in Korea
Frank Mangels whose wife Avis lives at 640 Marengo recently was promoted to corporal while serving in the Korean combat zone with the 3rd Infantry Division. A field wireman with 1st Battalion Headquarters Company 5th Infantry Regiment Mangels entered the Army in February 1951 and arrived in Korea last January.

Farewell Tea for Mrs Henry Gitzel Hosts 14 Guests
Mrs Henry Gitzel of 628 Elgin entertained 14 guests at a farewell party and birthday dinner in honor of her daughter and son in law Mrs James Schroeter. Mr Schroeter recently began a teaching post at the University of Lincoln Nebraska. Mrs Schroeter’s birthday was Sunday and the couple left that day with Mrs Gitzel for apartment hunting in Lincoln. Mrs Gitzel expects to return home later this week.
