Friends of Anthony Mostardo former band director learn Mrs Mostardo is improving after recent brain surgery. She remains in serious condition at Billings Hospital 930 E 5th Chicago with a long convalescence ahead. No visitors. Flowers not allowed. Cards letters and prayers welcome.
Fire of unknown origin damaged a three story house at Hal Beloit causing about $3,000 in losses. The third floor apartment was vacant. An elderly couple on the second floor and a dog were rescued after neighbor Marshall Quandt entered the building with help from Fire Chief Henry Lange.
The Council approved a restaurant operation at 1129 S Harlem subject to Building and Health department inspections. A sandwich catering truck permit was denied for Forest Park due to sanitation rules and need for running water. A bid to Charles L Page Co. funds a garage behind Peaske Hardware at 7449 Madison. Street paving between Lehmer and Jackson to begin today.
The Thomas Hereau family, displaced by Moose Hall fire, receives broad Forest Park support with furniture clothing and money gifts. The newspaper collection tops 500 dollars and donors include local officials businesses and families while the family stays with relatives in Chicago awaiting housing. Mail donations to the Review Box 145 to aid their start.
The Jocal Kiwanis club earned national recognition for youth work featured in the annual Kiwanis Was There publication. It highlights a midget football team started last year for boys aged 9 to 15 and notes special work for 27 other clubs in the U.S. and Canada.
Forest Park merchants announce a Sidewalk Sale on Monday September 25 with Sam Zussman and Jim Dale as co chairmen. Local businesses offer special bargains and the Chamber plans to make it an ongoing event. The BBB Beloit inquiry about a Home Food Service freezer plan is noted.
Neighbors from the Hannah block pressed Forest Park officials about alley flooding behind the car wash on Hannah and Thomas. Water covers the alley for days after rain, hindering access to garages and even garbage cans. They blamed downspouts and drainage on the car wash. Public officials proposed fixes and referred the issue to the village engineer.
The Women’s Bible Class of the Forest Park Presbyterian church will host an Ice Cream Social next Wednesday August 23 at the church. The event starts at 7 p.m. and a free will offering will be taken.
Rev. Erwin L. Paul of John Lutheran Church will deliver the sermon at an outdoor Sunday service in Village Park starting at 7 p.m. The program includes organ music from 6:30, gospel hymns, Bible readings and prayers, inviting the community to attend.
