The 1968-69 Forest Park Public Schools begin September 1 with kindergarten to grade 6 reporting at 9 am and grades 7 and 8 at 8 30 am for registration. Dismissal by 10 30 am first day. full day starts September 2. Teachers begin August 22 with eight days of pre school workshops and orientation.
Jack L Torgersen 21 of 140 Maringo promotion to Army specialist four cites service in Vietnam with the 79th Maintenance Battalion.
The council referred high density zoning on blocks along 900 Lathrop to the Zoning Board. A preschool nursery was approved subject to state and fire regulations at the former tavern corner of Lathrop and Brown. Curb and gutter repairs begin Monday on a priority basis until the budget runs out.
Proviso Township Assessor George C. Olsen announces the Mobile Field Unit will be at Hillside Shopping Center, Congress Expressway and Wolf Road, Hillside from August 23 to September 3. Property owners may visit 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday to ask questions about real estate taxes.
Forest Park Council unanimously approves rezoning for 7638 Wilcox property to allow two 4 unit buildings despite opposition. Mayor Mohr seeks to balance single and multi unit dwellings while noting rising land values. Residents cite congestion and preserve residential charm.
A group of well trained burglars entered Allen Chevrolet at 7901 Roosevelt. They used a ladder to access the service area, pried open a ventilator, and ransacked tool boxes, parts bins, and vending machines. They loaded stolen items into a customer's 1966 Impala trunk and fled the garage.
Percy Arends and Charles Percy will address the annual free picnic of the Regular Republican Organization of Proviso Township at Miller Meadows Maywood on August 14. The program includes games prizes such as a television set transistor radios and electric knives. Other Republicans attending include Richard Defline and Edmund Kucharski. Public invited with no admission. Parking provided.
Wood 1537 5S Harlem promoted to Analyst Clerical Systems for American Airlines at O'Hare. He was previously a Controller Division Specialist in quality control and manning analysis. He served in the Army Quartermasters Corps in Frankfurt 1957 to 1959 and joined American as a flight dispatch agent in 1955. He is the son of Mrs A J Wood of Arkadelphia and his wife Ingrid. they have two children Michael and Andrea.
Coral Koch of Proviso East, 540 Thomas, senior, earned the 1966 C. C. Taggart Memorial Scholarship for scholastic achievement leadership and financial need. She plans to study elementary education at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, this fall. The fund honors C. C. Taggart known as Mr. Proviso and linked to Proviso Township high schools from 1919 to 1958.
Electrician's mate third class Neal A. Stowe USN, son of Mr and Mrs Earl B Stowe of 1339 Elgin, is on station in the South China Sea aboard the USS Constellation, a U.S. 7th Fleet attack aircraft carrier.
