St John Lutheran Church starts its 19th annual Outdoor Services in Village Park on Sunday evening August 6 at 7 pm with Dr Erdmann Frenk of Joliet as guest speaker on The Deceitfulness of Sin. Soloist Martin Wiedbusch and organist Gerhardt Becker provide music. pre service concert 6 30 to 7 pm. If rain, service moves to 305 Circle Ave Forest Park.
Howard F. Sammon, president and director of Forest Park National Bank, was elected as the first second vice president of the Illinois Bankers Association. The position was created by a unanimous vote at the 65th annual meeting in Chicago in June. Sammon began banking in 1919, organizing Forest Park National Bank in 1943 and serving as president and director since then.
Blanche Kos of 1530 Marengo is one of six finalists in the Miss Chicago contest at the Pump Room Ambassador East Hotel awaiting Friday’s result. She has been named Miss J N T and Miss Sportsorama and was runner up Miss Proviso.
Village council approved a rezoning request by Conrad Hellemann and Henry Hings to turn residential property at the southeast corner of Elgin and Washington into semi commercial for a parking lot serving Otto's restaurant. Neighbors fear depreciation of property values and tax loss. a zoning hearing is set for August to hear public opinions.
The Reda family turned a street closure and downturn into Oak Leaf Laundry and Dry Cleaners in Forest Park. Al Reda, Hazel Reda and their children built a multi building operation from Desplaines to Harrison, employing 85 with annual turnover near 500000, expanding from a battery shop started in 1921 to a full service laundry and dry cleaning business now led by Al as president and Hazel as treasurer.
