Proviso's Second Annual Vocational Guidance conference will be held at the high school next Tuesday April 28. An address to the student body is planned for Friday morning April 27 on choosing a vacation and getting a job. The event features a lineup of speakers from government service pharmacy modeling teaching printing dental hygiene optometry and more with sessions at 1 p.m. Tuesday and ongoing discussions to help students learn about careers and requirements.

At Monday night’s council meeting routine business dominated. Mayor Hussey praised Edward Bassey for accepting police and fire commission posts, a street signal contract was awarded to A A Electric Co upon state guidance, and license payments were discussed with May 1 targets for tavern owners. Florists of Forest Park sought licensing, seen as revenue and protection.
Lane's Bakery, closed March 24 by fire, will reopen next Tuesday April 28 at Clinton Avenue and Roosevelt Road Oak Park. The redecorated shop, with new equipment, will operate as a separate business from the Oak Park bakery leased by Rad, which was closed during Roosevelt Road repaving.
Superintendent Welbourn announces no school on Monday April 24 after word of a teachers institute at La Grange High School. Instruction resumes Tuesday as planned.
The Divernor Club thanks voters of the township for splendid support of Governor Horner in the recent election. The group especially notes the majority of votes given the Governor in Forest Park.
Mrs Henry Meyer and her son Henry returned from a two month stay in Florida. The younger Henry came home full of vim and vigor while Mrs Meyer sports a tan from long days in the sun. They are glad to be back at Vor eat Park and recount a splendid time in the Southland.
Harry W. Ewert was elected president and John W. Newcomer secretary of the Proviso high school board at the organizational meeting following the recent election. Ewert, a three-year veteran, lives in Maywood and has long ties to the Chicago Board of Trade. The board also includes Emery A. Parichy, John W. Newcomer, Leslie Allen, and Irving Flendrvetson, with others to continue prior policies. The Proviso district, once nearly insolvent, rebuilt under Superintendent Belkema after costly bond defaults and a period of heavy financial strain.
The Galvin Manufacturing Corporation, maker of Motorola radios, has leased the Layne North Central building at 1421-25 Crete Avenue to establish research laboratories. Ten research engineers will be based there, with Raymond F. E. Wood already moving in from Rogers Park. The firm, producing 2000 autos daily at its Chicago plant, rents the space to advance development away from electrical impulses amid competing communities. Broker Henry Rieck of 7507 Madison Street arranged the five year lease.
Kiwanis club welcomed Park District officials from Forest Park including Ray Warnecke president Jed Steves Ian Murray and Harry Weidemann. He reviewed the district’s November 11 199d vote the 11 acre site south of the Soa Line to Desplaines east of Desplaines Avenue bought for 80000. The WPA project will fund labor and materials with government support and the district’s lone employee Gordon Wallace the superintendent. Erwin Thormaklin outlined federal aims to provide employment while prioritizing landscaping before swimming pool and buildings.
Forest Park Post 414 American Legion held a regular meeting led by acting Commander Koltenbach after Commander Kritschke was delayed. The group planned Memorial Day activities including a village parade, services, graveside details, and a Sunday ceremony at Forest Mine cemetery with Rev. Preston Bradley slated to speak.
Forest Park Public Schools elects Fred Hrossard and Kim Roehtke to the board on Thursday evening in April U6. Emery A Parichy steps down after a capable tenure. President L G Pittman creates committees with chairs C Meseke, L L Hurwitz, A Fl Busch, F Gosch, F Brossard, and others guiding finance supplies administration grounds and field-Stevenson.
