Forest City schools seek extra teacher for nine month term
Parents with children turning six between October 1 and December 1 should send their names to the Forest City Grammar School principal. The Cool Springs township superintendent believes funding may allow an additional teacher if approved by the State Board of Equalization in Raleigh. If funded, children reaching age six by December 1 will be admitted. Do not send children until notified, but submit the child’s name now. The band director Mr. Cole says a full playing band will be at Forest City graded school. the high school band is improving and will play at Alexenick ball park Friday night, with Cool Springs High. Lenoir High boys are coached by Mr. Paul Moss of Forest City. the local school expects a good game as the team improves. The first game is Friday September 18 at the high school athletic field, against Chesney. kickoff 3:45 p.m. The Tenoir game will be played at 8 p.m.

The Forest City Woman's Club opened its year with a September 3 gathering at Mrs. G C McDaniel's home. New president Mrs. J Asbury outlined aims for 1931 32, minutes were read, and a parliamentary law lesson was given. A "Supper on the Square" is planned for September 11, and a welfare drive yielded canned goods. Franklin E Harrill aged 62 died at his home in Latimore Sunday after a year long illness. He had been a Rutherford hospital patient. A member of Double Springs Baptist Church since boyhood, he was active in civic affairs. Funeral services were at Double Springs Baptist Church Monday afternoon, led by Rev D G Washburn and Rev J W Sutle. Burial followed in Double Springs Cemetery.

The Rutherford County Fair will run September 22 through 26 at the fair grounds on Highway 20 between Forest City and Spindale. Henderson, Polk and McDowell counties co sponsor with Rutherford. The L. J. Heath Shows provide nine big rides and sixteen shows with acts by The Flying Brocks, Brock Brothers, Edna Brock, and Bill De Arme.
