State leaders emphasize cooperation with county agents and local departments to prevent spread, noting quarantines and the pest’s damaging impact on peaches, plums, pears, apples, citrus, peppers, tomatoes, melons, figs, and grapes. The life cycle lasts three to four months, with females drilling into fruits to lay eggs and maggots consuming the interior.
