The Woman's Missionary Society of the Methodist church hosted an ice cream supper in the school house grove on Friday evening. The Spindale Band provided music, drawing a large crowd and selling a substantial amount of cream.
Misses Mary and Lola Boyles along with Joe Boyles and Davenport of Charlotte visited Mr and Mrs G B Howard over the weekend. Istanche Dellinger of Cherryville stayed with Mrs B L Smith last week. Afies Mae Hester Ellis of Grover visiting Ruth Ellis and Blanche Dellinger with others. A party drove to Chimney Rock for supper. Hon D F Giles of Marion spoke at the church in pastor’s absence. Paul Watson of Laurinburg has a job here. Paul, son of J W Starnes, is much improved after surgery for blood poisoning. Miss Sarah Harton of West End spent Sunday with the Hartons.
Rutherfordton on June 20 reports Mrs C E Tanner hosting missionary and aid societies with music by Misses Tanner and Eaves and an ice course served by Mrs Tanner and daughter Evelyn plus Mrs Matt McBrayer. Mrs Dr Hicks Logan entertained six tables of bridge and one of rock. prize went to Mrs E Elmore for highest bridge score. The guest list includes numerous local ladies and visitors.
Eva Logan and Sara Wilkins join Laura Abrams and Miss Thayer. several families visited relatives in Gaston Bethel Edwards and Gastonia are noted. Attendees include A B Wilson in Lowell, C Raymond Hamrick in Burnsville, J L James and sons, R E Price to Kiwanis convention, marriages of Mary Britt and Guy Hill in Gastonia and Garland Blake and Virginia White in Spartanburg.
In Bostic North Carolina churchgoers filled service as Rev E J Poe preached. Oak Grove baseball team defeated Shiloh in a fast 7 to 8 game while locals visited relatives and attended services at New Hope and other area homes.
Rutherford county textile plants gain notice in the Charlotte Observer Made in Carolina section. Horn Rug Company of Spindale produces rag rugs and bed spreads, employing about 30 people locally with capacity for 5,000 rugs per week and multiple looms. Most output is sold to a New York commission house and some direct to department stores in the Carolinas.
