Youth wounded by trapgun in Bostic store
June 29 George Harris 20 was wounded in Rutherford hospital after a trap gun discharged at O. B. Biggerstaff’s Bostic store. Officers say Harris was under arrest on a charge of attempting to break and enter. Biggerstaff, a local merchant, had been missing merchandise and reportedly set the trap at the front door to deter shoplifting. Harris was jailed for a hearing in recorder’s court Tuesday.

Caroleen June 30 A crank pin case broke Monday midnight causing considerable damage to the mill engine. The break was detected but parts damaged the machinery before it could be stopped. A small portion of the mill will close for a few days for repairs.

State Highway Patrol records for May violations and actions
Raleigh June 29 The state highway patrol reported 19 110 traffic violations in May. Capt Charles D Farmer said fines and costs totaled 8102 and sentences reached 41 months. 106 drivers had improper plates and 390 had no tags. Plate revenue was 6796 72. Patrol on duty 10 387 hours, warned 6 144 drivers, 4 186 had lights corrected.

Snake bite on farm tenant survives after first aid

Funeral held for J Boyce Elders at Spindle Methodist
Funeral services were held for J Boyce Elders 31 at Spindle Methodist church with Rev J A Barber presiding. Interment followed at Pleasant Grove cemetery. Elders died at Spencer Mills while operating an electric drill after slumping from a ladder. He is survived by his widow, his parents, one brother and two sisters.

Large Bass Shipment From Government Hatch
