Death of C Coddington Docks at Harbor Island

Charlotte mourning as C Coddington of Charlotte dies suddenly Sunday night off the Carolina Coast. A heart attack is listed as cause while on a duck hunting trip. Funeral plans move body to Charlotte for burial. Coddington helped build WBT radio and Buick distributorships in the Carolinas.

Young Man Dies of Pneumonia at 21 in Forest City

Malin Robinson aged 21 died at his parents home in Oakad community on Monday afternoon after illness that began November 23. Funeral at Pleasant Grove Methodist church was held Tuesday with Rev. J. B. Tabor Jr. officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Grove cemetery. Survived by widow Cleo Thitener, two brothers Will and Clyde, two sisters Mrs Baxter Biggerall and Mrs J Beam and Ava Robinson. Health decline and prior Sanatorium treatment noted.

Died in Hendersonville Ex-Service Man Cova R Priest

Cova R Priest aged 33 died Monday in Hendersonville after a three day illness of pneumonia. Funeral services were held at Pleasant Grove Methodist church with Rev M F Moores in charge. Interment followed at Pleasant Grove cemetery. He was a native of Fulford Iowa and a son of R Priest. Survived by widow, two children, two sisters and two brothers. He served in the American Expeditionary Forces.

Wayside Gang to Elect Officers at December Meeting

The regular monthly Wayside Gang meeting will be held next Tuesday evening December 11th at 7:80 in the new city hall. It is the time to elect officers for the six month term and every Rutherford county member should be present. There will be no banquet this month due to Christmas cash concerns.

The tuberculosis Christmas seal sale is sponsored by the ladies of The Womans' Club. Friday and Saturday are set as special sale days with club members stationed at Farmers Bank Sinkee's Store Padgett and King Hall Rudisill Drug Co and Peoples' Drug Store in Forest City urging residents to purchase seals for the cause.

The Rutherford County Bankers Association hosted a joint gathering at Blanton's Dining Hall Forest City on December 4 with bankers from Rutherford Cleveland Gaston and Mecklenburg counties in attendance A dinner followed by talks by W R Cuthbertson E E Jones and A H Sims Jr from North Carolina Bankers Association attendees listed in full.

Methodist W M S Has Interesting Meeting

Circles 1 and 2 of the Methodist Womans Missionary Society met jointly at Mrs. Ted Cashi home. After a brief business session Mrs. Dennis led the devotional on Catching Step with the Youth of Today discussed by Mrs. G P Reid. Mrs. Bert Moore sang Speak To Me Now My Savior. Social Service for Circle 2 recorded twelve trays seventy visits flowers sent three times and clothing valued at $6.00. Salad sandwiches and coffee were served by the hostess.

Red Cross Roll Call Opens Here This Thursday

The Forest City Red Cross roll call has been postponed to Thursday December 6 due to the chairman's absence and widespread illness. Eleanor Meares Oneida Welch Kathryn Moore Dorothy Rudisill and Dorothy Hamrick will assist, inviting residents to join and help Forest City top the campaign.

A county wide Epworth League gathering is set for Friday at Pleasant Grove church West End Forest City starting 7 30 p m Rev H F Duncan of Charlotte will deliver the principal address Rev W A Barber of Spindale will speak and the Rutherford County Epworth League Association will be reorganized Officers will be elected and music and a social hour planned All Epworth League members are urged to attend.

KIWANIS ELECT NEW OFFICERS AT MEETING

The local Kiwanis Club elected new officers for the year at Monday’s meeting. Charles Z. Flack was named president with H H Doggett as vice president and C C Erwin as second vice president. Postal arrest in Morris murder plot case linked to Forest City

Chief Charles R. Price of Forest City and postal inspectors arrest William Joyce alias Walter E. Morris of New Jersey for inciting and plotting murder. Evidence gathered via correspondence using Waters’ name led to a February 1929 federal district court trial in Trenton. Witnesses include Price Waters and postal officials from Paulsboro Bridgeton and Woodbury.
