The Spencer Corporation of Spin Joe reports orders for manufactured goods boosting its plant operations and a shorter weekly schedule. A countywide revival follows with slight gains in dry goods, expected September formal return, and Forest City Courier’s strong week. Doggett Reunion Held At Joe Doggett Home

The Doggett reunion will be held next Sunday at the home of Joe Doggett near Alexander. All Doggett connections and others interested are invited to be present and bring well filled baskets. The reunion will be an all day occasion.

Rutherford County Club Meets Friday at First Baptist

The Rutherford County Club and Rutherford County Dental Society plan a joint meeting Friday at the First Baptist church in Rutherfordton. Dr C B McCall, president of the Dental Society, will lead the program. Dr Ernest A Branch of Raleigh is expected to attend and speak as director of oral hygiene on the state board of health.

Mrs Mary Jones Dies at 66 in Forest City

Mrs Mary Jones died Friday morning at age 66 at home of her daughter Mrs Minnie Houser in Forest City. Funeral services were held Saturday at First Broad Baptist Church with Rev W M Gord in charge. Interment followed in First Broad cemetery. Survived by four children, a brother, two sisters, grandchildren and many relatives.

Rutherford fair set to open September 23 at Lake Lure

Rutherford County four county fair activities begin September 23 and run through September 27 at Lake Lure. The Rutherford County Agriculture Society sponsors the event with staff including Cordelia Henderson Marjorie Sievers and Grace Harrill. Events feature midway Krause Shows fireworks football horse and automobile races with school day free admission for county students. Local exhibits from Rutherford Polk McDowell Burke counties expected.

Former Ellenboro Man Bitten by Tarantula Tarantula

Ellenboro Aug 12 Clem Meviel formerly of Ellenboro now in Pratt Kansas is recovering at his parents home from injuries after a tarantula bite. He spent four weeks in hospital and will be unable to work for months. He is son of Mr and Mrs Fisher Meviel and has worked for the Chicago and Rock Island Road five years. His brother Hall Meviel and his wife and child are visiting France and plan to return in the fall.

Miss Gladys Freeman Dies at Home in Pea Ridge

Miss Gladys Freeman twelve years old daughter of Mr and Mrs Farris Freeman died Sunday night at the family home in Pea Ridge after a year long illness. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at W C Rourk Ellenboro with Rev R T Baker Brittain presiding. Interment followed at Concord cemetery. She is survived by her parents two brothers and one sister at home.

Mr C C Turner, a cotton buyer, completed a large galvanized tin warehouse on Highway 20 near Harris Oil Co. with 48 by 82 feet dimensions, a garage for trucks and a spacious office. The new building surpasses his Seaboard railway site, with construction led by Alonzo Carver, and Turner plans to move in soon.

Local Schools Set Open Date and Registration Plan

Fire of undetermined origin destroyed outbuildings and an automobile at J C Harrill home on Cherry Mountain street last week. Cool Springs Township schools will open September 1 for regular work with new pupils registering August 29 at 10 am at Forest City grammar and high school buildings. Farmers may grant leaves of absence for cotton picking if children start on the first day. attendance urged.

James D Lansing Dies After Long Illness At 67

Rutherfordton obituary reports James David Lansing aged 67 died at home four miles northwest of Rutherfordton after a five year illness from paralysis. Funeral held Thursday at New Hope Baptist Church Earl with Rev Padgett in charge. Interment in New Hope cemetery. Survived by extended family including Sansing, Monseith, Carver, Grose, Smith, Turner, Lansing Jr., and 38 grandchildren. one brother Sam Lansing of Gaffney.

Southern to discontinue two trains on Rock Hill Marion line

The Southern Railway will end trains Nos. 113 and 114 effective August 17. From Sunday they will run only between Shelby and Columbia, due to heavy passenger losses. No schedule change for trains 35 and 36. No. 114 runs Rock Hill to Marion reaching Forest City at 8:40 p.m. No. 113 runs Marion to Rock Hill arriving at 6:01 a.m. Officials last week met local business leaders on the cutback.

Forest City and Badin in NC semi pro title clash

Forest City and Badin will play six games to decide the North Carolina semi pro championship. The first three games are set for Forest City on August 14 15 and 16 with the final six August 21 22 and 23 at Badin. Forest City just defeated Concord 5 to 0 for its thirteenth straight win and region sweep.
