Scouts of America establish Polk County unit at Tryon meeting
On a Tryon chamber of commerce gathering night last week Messrs. Smyre Schiele and Gillespie joined Polk County to Piedmont Council, Boy Scouts of America. A large turnout formed a committee to recruit leaders for troops and $1,000 was raised for Tryon and Polk County’s quota. Donations ranged from $260 to $25 as locals pledged support. W D Harmon of Atlanta, slated as assistant to Executive Schiele, announced headquarters would open in Forest City once Rutherford’s quota is secured.

Rutherfordton Central high school defeated Forest City and Cliffside high schools in a triangular debate and advances to the April 15 finals in Chapel Hill. Clean-Up Week April 12 to 17 Proclaims Town Order
The week of April 12th is set aside for town clean up with residents urged to place rubbish in barrels or boxes for the city truck to collect.
