Forbes District P C Associations Annual Meeting
The Forbes District P C Associations held its annual meeting on Friday night in the Boys' Department. Officers elected for 1848 include President A W Turner and Vice Presidents G Melville and J Rodgers, with A J Boyton as treasurer. The group approved the purchase of three boxes of library books and noted 15 box units available for circulation among Porbea schools, with a further £19 of books to be added soon.

L J Ackroyd Obituary Aged 56 In Porthes
The death occurred on Monday afternoon of Lealie John Ackroyd at his home in Sheriff Street Porthes. He suffered a heart attack while with a friend and died before help could arrive. A WWI veteran and farmer in the Carema district he moved to town for health. He leaves a widow, two sons and two daughters. The funeral was held Wednesday at the Church of England section of the local cemetery with Rev A I White officiating.
