Butchers Hops Resume Trading After Union Meeting

In Sydney a meeting of meat workers and the Union led to plans to reopen butchers shops under the Federal Meat Industries Award. Trading will be six days a week from September to March and five days from April to September, with the new hours effective from Saturday. The union will apply to the Government Court for official approval on Wednesday.

Daroobalgic Slaughter Activity Resumes After Hiatus

The works manager Mr J Burton told the Advocate that the sheep slaughtering at Daroobalgie has resumed after months of inactivity. Fourteen butchers operated on the chain with two absent workers replaced by others, and about MAO sheep were expected to be slaughtered before knock off. Idle days would drop from three to two weekly, then rise to five per week. cattle slaughtering would begin Wednesday and the company would not accept orders for small goods.

Rain and Snow Boost Wheat Belt Farmers in Central West

Rain and snow spread through the Central West wheat belt with Forbes area crops benefiting as showers continued through Sunday and into yesterday. Falls varied by location with Wirringa and West Plains near ten points, Lake Cowal and Bedgerabong reporting notable totals, while light snow touched Orange and Pesk Hill as winds shifted.

Monwonga-Bedgerabong show marks second year success

The Monwonga-Bedgerabong Agricultural Bureau held its second annual show last Saturday with Forbes and district crowds backing a promising future. Despite rain delay last year, this year’s turnout neared 1000 total entries, with admission receipts of £54 15s6d. Pavilion entries lagged but needlework, flowers, cookery and junior club displays drew strong public interest. Judges praised cattle and sheep quality, noting Dorset Horn rams, Corriedale stock, and notable winners from local farms, while seasonal conditions reduced some classes.

Two Parachute Descents At Air Display

Forbes Aero Chub may stage two parachute descents at the coming air display on September 4 and 6. Keith Mutr, ex Lat Australian Paratroop battalion member now in Forbes, has a Civil Aviation permit for three descents. An Avro Anson aircraft will be used if plans finalize by display date. Mutr expects a permanent civilian parachutist license after completing the three jumps.
