Wilson County 4-H members and 140 volunteers join National 4-H Week October 3 to 9 with events including Pegnut Festival and Achievement Night under the theme 4 H as To The Future.
The 38th Annual Peanut Festival court greeted Floresville officials on September 23. Mayor Carl Eschenburg signed a proclamation declaring October 7 8 and 9 as Peanut Festival Days and welcomed Lori and her court to the Coronation and festivities.
The City of Floresville and the Recreation Commission publish the park catalogue and thank the Floresville Chronicle Journal for help in booklet distribution. The newspaper staff aided the publicity effort with special assistance.
Floresville merchants announce a series of special buys for the trade area. Readers are urged to shop locally and visit advertisers carrying national brand merchandise, with emphasis on quality over no name items. Local stores listed include fashion, hardware, drug, cafe, and auto suppliers plus the Floresville Chronicle journal.
Robert Stuart, 1981 graduate of La Vernia High and Olympic Team hopeful, enjoyed a landmark year. He progressed from local 4-H tournaments to international competition in Sao Paulo, Brazil, showcasing dedication and sacrifice. Continued on Page 2.
On September 23 1982 a caller warned of a bomb at Floresville High School. Staff evacuated students and staff to bleachers while DPS Wilson County Sheriff and Floresville Police searched rooms. By noon no bomb found and search extended to the adjacent middle school. Students cited to Juvenile Court later that week.
Floresville Jr High in Floresville Texas sent six girls to the 1982 HemisFair Cheerleader Camp at the San Antonio Convention Center August 2 to 4. The Floresville squad earned first second and third place ribbons and the Spirit Stick while 600 plus students from across Texas learned cheers chants and stunts under NCA instruction led by Liz Kiper. Camp director Eris Ritchie of Southwest Camps conducted the event.
