A historical marker dedication took place last Sunday at Sutherland Springs, noting the event on September 25, 1966. The piece also warns cotton farmers about pest control, stalk destruction deadlines, and local automobile dealers previewing 1967 models in Wilson County.
Stockdale ex students and teachers announce Homecoming on Saturday Oct 8 1966. Registration and open house start at 4 p.m. with a 5 p.m. memorial service in the high school auditorium. A 6 p.m. banquet follows in the cafeteria and a Stockdale vs Nixon football game at Brahma field starts at 8 p.m. Reservations due by Oct 3 with Edward Cooper or Mrs L R Smith Stockdale Texas.
The Native Texas marker ceremony in Sutherland Springs Texas drew about 200 attendees from South Texas including judges lawyers teachers and civic workers from Guadalupe DeWitt Gonzales Bexar Wilson Atascosa and Karnes counties as well as visitors from San Antonio La Vernia Alice Nixon Floresville Seguin Stockdale and other cities. Local descendants and Sutherland family members attended while a 75 cup bouquet was donated by La State Bank and flowers from Floresville firms honored the event. The Humble Oil dealer supported the Texas Historical Survey program funding museum directories and the official guide to Texas Historical Markers. Continued on page 4.
The Hondo Creek Watershed flood control project south of Kenedy in Karnes County was dedicated Saturday. Congressman John Young of Corpus Christi presented the principal address before distinguished government officials and guests. Young represents Texas 14th Congressional District in the U S House of Representatives.
Floresville High School senior Miss Sue Talley daughter of Mr and Mrs Troy Talley will represent the Floresville Chamber of Commerce in the Come and Take It parade in Gonzales Texas on Saturday October 1. Talley active in FHA Speech Club Science Beta and FFA sweetheart and a former Homecoming participant. Mrs. Janie Munoz announces an Open House at Janie's Beauty Shop located on 1003 Standish Floresville from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday October 1 with refreshments and six prize drawings.
A fire of undetermined origin destroyed Kenneth Brown Ford Sales and Floresville Implements Company in Floresville last week. Estimated losses, including parts and equipment, could reach 280000. Fire crews from Path, Harmony Hills, Castle Hills and nearby districts fought the blaze as flames endangered adjacent residences. Contents were largely lost. tractors and some records were removed. Kenneth Brown Ford Sales had been under new management for under a year, previously Floresville Motor Co. since 1916.
Style show sponsored by Lieberman's Maxine's and Teltschik's, produced by Flor esville Jaycee Ettes, will be at Wiley Seale Auditorium September 29 at 8 pm to raise funds for the Wilson County Library Fund. Local models, door prizes, and performances from community talent. Admission 50 cents adults 25 cents students. All proceeds go to the library.
Rookie Mike Robuck from Poth showed strong adaptability in Monday’s rehearsal for Texas Longhorns. He practiced at left tackle after defensive end training, joined freshmen in scrimmage, and impressed despite not joggling prior. The performance came amid prep for Tech.
The remains of the two sisters were transported to Floresville for burial. Local authorities reported the victims in a tragic case, with family and community preparing services and tributes. Details on the circumstances and identities were not available in the fragment.
Randolph Bo-Hawks crushed Floresville Tigers 36 to 0 on their field. Terry English and Bucky Allhouse starred as Alabama State potentials. Floresville heads to Kenedy for a 7:30 p.m. district opener, with Kenedy favored to win and Chas. Stewart cited as a key Kenedy player.
At a recent board meeting the Wilson County Farm Bureau fixed October 13 1966 as the annual convention date. The event will convene at 7 30 p m in the American Legion Hall with an open invitation to all interested in farming and ranching for what is described as an informative gathering.
