The latest U S government cotton report states Wilson county gins had produced 6731 bales before September 1, 1983, down from 7005 bales the previous year. Texas total ginned by that date reached 902,947 bales, up from 551,273 bales as of September 1, 1982.

Government to Lend Ten Cents a Pound on Cotton
Washington news reports Roosevelt approval for government loans to cotton producers at 10c per pound with no liability to borrowers. Loans secured by lien on cotton, interest as low as possible, with 8 million bales still held by farmers and plans to limit crop acreage. Alva Harper Claimed by Death at 72 in Wilson County
Alva Rado Harper died at 7 a.m. Tuesday September 26 1933 at his Sun nyside farm east of Floresville after a seven week illness. He was 72 years 3 months and 21 days old. Funeral services were held at the family home and burial followed at Harper Cemetery. Harper was born in Wilson county June 5 1861 to E S and Sallie Harper, among Wilson county’s pioneer families who helped settle and develop the area. He spent most of his life in Wilson county with a brief ranch stay in McMullen county. He left a large funeral procession and many friends and relatives attended.

Rattlesnake Bites Local Farmer. Seeks Care
Moczygemba, a Falls City farmer, was bitten by a large rattlesnake while hauling hay last Saturday. One fang broke off in his arm. He received medical treatment at Oxford & Archer Hospital and returned home Monday, with daily improvement though not entirely out of danger.

Floresville Receives Much Needed Rainfall Tuesday
Floresville and vicinity recorded about two inches of rain on Tuesday night, with 2.65 inches in the past week. The rainfall arrived during a severe drought, aiding crops and easing concerns for fall feed stuffs and onions. Strong showers across much of the county were noted, though not universal. Additional soaking rains would be welcomed in the coming days.
