Land row over abandoned rail strip sparks hike and bike trail debate

Wilson County Commissioners discussed ownership of a former Southern Pacific Union Pacific rail land adjacent to private properties at the September 24 2001 meeting. Residents including Edwin Johns and the McBrides urged opposition to a proposed hike and bike trail unless it abuts public roads, citing crime traffic and property value concerns backed by two studies. San Antonio River Authority representatives attended as the panel considered a possible proclamation for land outside Flores County.

Floresville Peanut Festival names Grand Marshal for 2001

Clifton Jansky Nominated For Four ACCM Awards

Land Purchase Authorized For The New Hospital

Wilson Memorial Hospital District Board voted unanimously on September 20 2001 to buy two land tracts totaling 10.6 acres for a replacement hospital. The site on U S 181 west of Mike Lozano Ford Mercury will cost 285000 with closings set for early October.

Indictments Filed Against Former Task Force Member Villarreal
