County commissioners approved a 3 percent raise in the effective tax rate for Fiscal Year 2006 with an estimated $6.2 million in ad valorem revenue. The rate set at 0.4159 includes a jail bond ad valorem tax of 0.439. Disabled and older residents face a frozen rate under Amendment No. 13, signed Sept. 13, 2003, if they have homestead exemptions, keeping taxes at last year’s level.
Floresville council inches toward final approval of a nearly 10 million bond package for Floresville Electric Light and Power. Officials cite a 4.24 percent refinancing rate and about 600000 in savings, while council member Pete Sanchez questions review time and board representation.
Pre game events at the Floresville vs LaVernia football game featured U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar presenting the parents of Army Spc. Laura Garcia De Leon Jr. with a flag flown over the Capitol. Cuellar called De Leon a hero and honored other servicemen. A 9-11 memorial message, "God Bless the USA" performance, and Taps followed.
Floresville City Council votes to set the tax rate at .3227 for the coming year, reducing the average homeowner’s tax bill by about $11 yearly. A $73,977 home would pay $244.94 instead of $255.22, keeping revenue steady with 2.39 million projected for next year. City sales tax revenue projection unspecified.
