All Wilson County taxpayers and concerned citizens are invited to attend the Taxpayers Association meeting on Tuesday September 14 2004 at 7 00 p m in the Floresville High School cafeteria. Election of seven directors will be on the agenda from nominated persons. New by laws adopted by the current board.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission issued a 99,400 grant on August 26, 2004, to Floresville for a Hike and Bike Trail. Colonel Jesse M. Perez led the request with broad city and FEDC support. Dale Bransford and City staff guided the effort, while Andrew Goldbloom will survey the planned work. Construction awaits guidelines and survey results, expanding Floresville’s park system by using an old railroad right of way.
Rene M Pena was sworn in Friday at 3 00 pm by Senior District Judge Jin Strauss as the new district attorney for the 81st Judicial District which includes Atascosa Frio Karnes La Salle and Wilson counties. He defeated Lynn Ellison in the March Democratic primary and will lead a five prosecutor five staff office based in Jourdanton with renovations planned in Floresville.
Jim Helmke receives honor as Lord High Chamberlain of the sixtieth Coronation Court of Texas Myths and Legends at Floresville Peanut Festival 2004. He has served the festival eighteen years, with roles in publicity, advertising, sound, lighting, producing the coronation, and parade announcing.
The Wilson Extension Education Association hosts its Tenth Annual Taster's Luncheon on September 16, 2004, at Floresville Methodist Fellowship Hall from 11:00 to 1:00. Cook books and baked goods will be sold to fund scholarships, community service, School Supply Projects, 4-H, and other local efforts. Lilia A. Raabe, Chairman, invites the community to taste dishes prepared by Labatt and Three Oaks EE Clubs and support local programs.
Jeffrey Duncan an eleven year old sixth grader from Floresville Middle School earned a goalie spot on the San Antonio Rampage Jr. hockey team. He will compete against players from Texas and Oklahoma and trains at Northwood Ice Center while hoping to reach Texas A M hockey. Jeff is the son of Jeff and Tammy Duncan and is joined by sister Keely at Floresville High School.
