New HEB To Open Floresville Store In 2004
Announcement of a 68000 square foot HEB store on 10th Street and Standish Street in Floresville with beer and wine, deli, fresh seafood, pharmacy with drive through, and a fuel station. The 18 acre site was bought from Ray Lamberth, with plans for retail space and possibly a three or four screen theatre. Over 200 jobs, tax revenue over 350000 yearly for the city and over 100000 to the school district are expected. Ground breaking soon with design in final stages and opening in early summer next year.

County Tax Increase of Eight Percent Proposed
Wilson County Commissioners held a special Friday meeting to vote on an eight percent tax increase. The proposal would set the tax rate at .4637, up from the current level, to cover a $120,000 rise in revenue for courtroom security staffing. Four of five commissioners voted in favor after discussions with County Auditor Ray Wolff and Judge Marvin Quinney. Albert Gomez Jr did not vote. A public hearing is scheduled for September 17 at 9:00 a.m.
