County Affairs Committee Held First Interim Meeting in Amarillo
Representative Jim Crockett attended the first interim meeting of the County Affairs Committee in Amarillo on August 15 1983. The session started a series of five statewide meetings on county government covering ordinance making indigent care and recodification of county law with future sessions planned for the Rio Grande Valley East Texas and the Dallas metropolitan area.

The Sheltered Workshop Auxiliary held an organizational meeting at Wilson County Junior High School on August 23 at 7 00 pm. Everett Taylor outlined the program aiding mentally and physically handicapped residents with a thrift store to be stocked by donations and staffed by volunteers. The slate of officers named included Karan Knight as Chairman and Vickie Griffin as Vice Chairman. The Treasure Chest store will operate with a pickup truck for merchandise collection. The next meeting is September 20 at 7 00 pm at the La Vernia Methodist Church Educational Building, and all Wilson County citizens are invited.
