Beginning today September 1 the Chronicle Journal launches a 30 day Fall Bargain subscription drive offering $1.25 per year for old accounts renewals and new subscriptions a discount of 75 cents per year and urging immediate payment to avoid higher regular rates. Atascosa County Mexican Killed By Auto Near Here Monday
A Mexican man about 40 living on a farm near the old Dewees ranch in Atascosa county died at Oxford & Archer hospital after being struck by an automobile Monday night. He was walking from Floresville toward his home when a car driven by Oran Rankin, Verdi school teacher, swerved to miss him. Rankin’s car carried him to hospital. inquest ruled death accidental. The decedent, unmarried, was survived by a single brother who took charge of the body and arranged interment Tuesday.

Three Oaks School will open Monday morning September 11 with no opening day program. Principal Lothar Tampke leads the faculty, including Mrs. Theodore Koether in the intermediate department and Miss Bernandine Scieler of Comfort in the primary. Joseph M Zak Dead At 32 In Floresville Area
Joseph M. Zak aged 32 years seven months and twelve days died at his home near Floresville Sunday August 27 1933 at 445 p m after a long illness He had been in poor health for months and was critically ill about six weeks Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Tuesday morning at 9 o clock with Rev Father Pp Zarb presiding.

Thomas Edison and Sidney Lanier of San Antonio join Floresville and Kenedy High in Class B District 23. Edison Bears defend district title in a four-team loop, down from 14 teams last year. Fifty Pound Catfish Caught In Cibolo River Near Stockdale
A group of Floresville youths fished the Cibolo River between Floresville and Stockdale Friday night and brought in a 50 pound catfish along with 10 pounds of buffalo and a 3 foot alligator gar. The catch drew wide local interest. The party included Walter Barber Gordon Peavy Randall Barber Hardy Allen Flowers Vernon Barker and Junior Harrell.

A large crowd attended Poth Catholic feast at Hermann Sons Hall with a noon address by Congressman R M Kleberg on the New Deal. A 2 to 1 baseball win over Kosciusko followed a day of barbecues, dancing, and a lengthy crowd at the supper. Texas voters approved repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment by 111,502, with beer legality leading by 124,600. statewide returns showed strong support for several state measures. Wilson County showed strong local option in beer and repeal, with Pandora voting dry. The event ran smoothly amid a busy election day exit poll and light turnout.

J C Matthews Dead In Wilson County
J C Clint Matthews aged 55 died at his home five miles north of Floresville on Thursday August 31 at 5 am after months of illness. He was a longstanding Wilson county resident and son of a noted local minister. His remains were buried at Barcelona cemetery yesterday afternoon. He belonged to an esteemed family and was highly regarded in the county.
