Operation ABC Mobilization involves over 8,000 law enforcement agencies starting November 26. For the first time, crackdown targets deadbeat drivers who fail to use restraints and those who drive drunk with children in the vehicle. CDC data show many children under 14 killed in alcohol crashes ride with drunk drivers, and higher alcohol use correlates with reduced child restraint use.

The Wilson County Soil and Water Conservation District announces its annual Poster and Essay Contest. Director Ben Korzekwa says the contest does not affect interscholastic league eligibility. Essays on Soil and Water Conservation must be 300 words or less with a cover sheet listing name address school grade teacher and district address. The poster contest is open to ages 12 to 16.
