The first Floresville lighting event brightened the courthouse square as community members gathered to enjoy Christmas music, choirs, and a countdown led by Albert Flores. Donations funded the display with Wells Fargo Bank and local businesses supporting the effort.
Wilson County Hospital District board on November 15 2001 reviewed three architect preliminary drawings and an aerial view for a future facility nearly 84 000 square feet. The plan on Highway 181 Floresville spans about eleven acres, with option to repurpose the current building. The board discussed use of the present hospital and sought outside expertise, plus an alcohol and drug abuse evaluation contract with Brush Country Council. CFO Martin Tanneberger reported October finances. proposed 2002 budget at 717 404 versus 649 316 in 2001. October Financial and Utilization Report was favorable and approved.
The Historical District gains protective ordinance boosting revitalization incentives. Local business owners join the Design Review Committee process. Festivities include Pumpkin Patch and Fright Nite on the square with kids enjoying, plus Christmas lights funded by the Floresville Economic Development Corporation. A living tree, lighting ceremony, and guests from KENS TV and Santa Claus are planned for November 18. New shops and eateries, Garden Diner, Friends Coffee House, and Epiphany gift shop open on the square.
Floresville merchants and Main Street Program host the first annual Christmas on Main Street at Courthouse Square on December 8 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Activities include Las Posadas, Live Nativity, hay ride, photos with Santa, arts and crafts, promotions, contests, silent auction, music and food.
