Wilson County Sheriff's Office asks for cash donations canned goods and toys for the annual Santa program aiding needy families. Call (830) 398-2535 for details or to contribute.
The public is invited to the 2003 Community Thanksgiving Service hosted by First Baptist Church Floresville at 1116 B Street. It will be Tuesday November 25 starting at 6 00 p m with church choirs providing music before the 7 00 p m service to give thanks for blessings.
The Alamo Area Council of Governments hosts the 15th Annual Pony Express Christmas Courier Swearing-In Ceremony on November 22 2003 at 10 00 am at the downtown U S Post Office across from the Alamo. Admission is free. Local groups perform and photos are available before a reception hosted by the Menger Hotel. The event preludes Christmas Along the Corridor a 150 mile celebration ending December 6 2003 with a Fort Sam Houston parade finale. For details contact Burma H yd e or visit AACOG dot com.
Floresville Elementary will host its 5th annual Turkey Trot for all classes on November 24 and 25. Students and participating parents walk during class periods with parent laps added to class totals. Special rewards award 5th grade teams reaching 35 miles and 3rd/4th grades reaching 25 miles with a free PE day. The event also introduces a School Walk for Make A Wish with donations collected for the foundation. Over five years the school has donated more than $15,000. Top fundraisers in each grade earn extra prizes and the two leading students per grade receive food gift certificates.
The Floresville Chronicle Journal will print one day early next week for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Deadline for copy is Friday November 21 at 12 noon to guarantee publication. Classified deadline is 9:00 a.m. Monday.
Wilson County Sheriff's Department investigates a fatal shooting involving 16 year old Paul P. Guajardo of Floresville. He was dropped at Wilson Memorial Hospital after a chest wound Friday at 4 45 p.m. and died later. No arrests reported as the investigation continues.
Poth Path Pirates defeat Brackett 21 20 in a bi district playoff before 1000 fans. Quarter leads and late Brackett rallies set up a final field goal attempt as Poth holds on to advance to Yorktown game at Alamo Stadium Friday at 7 30.
Wood Valley Acres Association won a road-taxing district to upgrade 10.4 miles of road in Wood Valley Acres Subdivision. In Wilson County Commission Court on November 17 Eva Martinez, County Clerk, announced 216 for and 102 against with 387 ballots accounted. A motion to accept the results carried.
