Roger Lopez, County Commissioner for Precinct 1 and a Floresville lifelong resident, died Wednesday October 31 2001 at age 54. The Wilson County official was respected across the community and his interview last year reflected his calm, faithful outlook on life, work, and mortality.
Three vehicles collided on U S Highway 87 six tenths of a mile north of Sutherland Springs. Almador Vidal and Anita Vidal of Stockdale died at the scene. Ronald Whitlow and two others were hospitalized. Investigation ongoing with charges pending.
A ribbon cutting on November 1 marked Floresville Flowers & Gifts opening at 925 10th Street Floresville. Local officials attended the ceremony and welcomed the new business to the community.
The Floresville Chronicle-Journal will print early for Thanksgiving week with copy and ad deadlines moved to Friday November 16 at 3 00 p.m for the November 22 issue. All papers will be mailed Tuesday November 20 for that issue. Floresville Flowers & Gifts announces a grand opening with City of Floresville and Chamber of Commerce representatives present. The shop offers floral, wedding, dried and funeral arrangements, balloons, wire service, plants, and gift items and accepts checks, debit, and major credit cards.
Wilson County officials disclosed that a burglary at the 81st Judicial District Narcotics Task Force offices on October 24 2001 resulted in the loss of a multi kilogram amount of cocaine. DPS Narcotics Service relocated all drug evidence and a formal investigation by Texas Rangers is underway.
Main Street Floresville launches a new ordinance protecting historic buildings and offering tax phase in incentives to property owners. Citizens are invited to join the Design Review Committee at City Hall or the Main Street office. Christmas lights, events, and new businesses brighten the square including The Garden Diner, Friends Coffee Shop, and Legacy's Antiques.
