The Floresville High School commencement exercises were held Wednesday night but could not be covered fully in this issue. A fuller report is expected to appear next Friday as planned.

John V. Donaho of Floresville, field representative for C. T Smith Company of New Orleans, purchased the first load of dry black eyed peas marketed in Wilson County for the 1963 season. The 13,000 pound truckload brought $780 at $6.00 per 100 pounds. Peas will be processed at Jourdanton and shipped soon.
Senator Walter Richter will visit Wilson County on June 6 as part of a weeklong blitz through eleven counties of District 19. He aims to meet local residents before summer schedules. a special session called by the Governor could alter the trip. Entreaties may be directed to Gonzales at FPO Box 23 or via Area Code 512 679-2008.
Wilson County swine committees chair Allan Drozd announces a Swine Carcass Cut-Out on June 17 in Poth to help everyday hog growers evaluate meatiness. Eight hogs 80 to 220 pounds will be processed with a live evaluation Monday morning and carcass cutting Tuesday afternoon. Prizes include hog holders, paint, feed, garden hose, and more to attract turnout.
Texas 4-H clubs prepare for their Annual Round-Up June 4 6 at Texas A M College Station with about 2000 members leaders county agents and friends expected to attend The event marks a longtime gathering where participants vie for national finals later in the year and have done so for more than fifty years on the campus.
President Kennedy marked his 46th birthday on May 29, 1989 despite various ailments. His office said he has been in excellent health and missed only two days of scheduled activities. A noted American figure, he is regarded as a pivotal historical leader.
Governor John B. Connally praised the recently adjourned Texas Legislature as the finest session of the century. He spoke at the 80th annual San Antonio Chamber of Commerce meeting, noting a productive record and the effort to address state problems in a constructive manner.
Poth Vegetable Company with AH Hubinger as manager shipped its first carload of green corn on May 7 from Wilson County and has since sent 22 more carloads. Despite drought, the irrigated corn is unusually fine, grown on about 800 acres with several hundred workers. Corn sells for 1.25 a sack and peak shipments are expected next week to markets across Texas, including San Antonio and Natalia.
Gillespie County crops and buildings suffered tremendous losses Monday night as a vicious storm battered areas northeast and east of Fredericksburg. Peach crops were damaged and losses run high across farms and structures.
Floresville residents head to the polls on June 1 for a referendum proposing a dog ordinance. The measure would affect city limits and impose age restrictions for voters.
Floresville hosts Walking Weldon this Saturday afternoon and evening performance likely drawing local crowds and community attention to the event.
