A revised USDA estimate places Texas 1939 cotton production at 2,846,000 bales, about eight percent below 1938 and well under the 1928–1937 ten year average of 4,077,000 bales. Lint yield per acre is 18 pounds above the ten year average, with lint value about 124.1 million dollars. Overall yield reduction amounted to 39 percent due to adverse weather 28 percent and pests nine percent.

J B Duke Dies Of Heart Attack
Jesse B Duke, 49, a well known county resident living north of town on Highway 16, died near Sasamico Friday at about 5 p.m. from a heart attack while driving his truck. The inquest verdict supported accidental death. Funeral services were Sunday at 4 30 p.m. at Riebe Funeral Home San Antonio with burial in Dover Cemetery, Bexar County. Survived by wife Augusta and two sons Calvin and Willie.
