Three Floresville students earn degrees at Incarnate Word

Three Floresville students graduate from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio as Mary K. McFadden receives a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics with English minor while Janice Baumann Moczygemba and Sister Barbara Lynn Hyzak, CDP earn Bachelor of Science in nursing. McFadden earns Who’s Who honors and Alpha Chi membership. Moczygemba earns Who’s Who honors and Phi Lambda Chi. The 228 graduates from 43 cities and nine states heard commencement address by Dr. Reuben L. Kalm.

In Austin Texas the June draft call for Texas was reduced from 1416 to 961 men by a telegram from Lt Gen Lewis Hershey national draft director. National quotas were cut from 29500 to 7W 000 for June with July calls set at 15000. Texas share estimated at 700 to 750 men. Poth Man Dies After Being Struck By Car

Ben Yosko 68 of Poth died after being struck by a car on FM Road 641 near West Poth Texas Saturday night May 25. Driver 17 year old Alex Chavarria Tejada Jr of Floresville was not charged per officials saying the crash was unavoidable. Requiem Mass was held May 27 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with burial at Blessed Sacrament Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Conpie Yosko a brother Sami Yosko and a sister Gertrude Wrinkler.

Local Kin Injured in San Antonio Car Crash

Mrs Gervas Moczygemba and daughters Karen and Leyla of San Antonio were injured Monday when her Chevelle collided head on with another car. Karen, a junior high student, had facial wounds and underwent a two hour surgery before ICU admission. Leyla suffered a broken collarbone and other injuries. Mrs Moczygemba was treated and released. Other vehicle occupants’ injuries not known.

Freight Cars Blaze At Cotulla

A derailment on the Missouri Pacific line near Cotulla caused 27 freight cars to derail and several chemical tank cars to burn. Flames rose up to 100 feet, with explosions heard miles away and debris igniting asphalt along Interstate 35.
