State Senator Fred Mauritz of Ganado, long-time legislator from the 18th District, was laid to rest Monday at Forest Park Cemetery in Houston after dying Saturday at Nightingale Hospital El Campo. Gov. Jester attended part of the day’s services as both chambers adjourned to honor the late lawmaker noted for opposing ad valorem taxes and for advocating UT Medical School relocation.

Washington May 27 The Agriculture Department ordered spare stamp No 12 good for 10 pounds of sugar valid immediately. The stamp was to have become valid June 1 to boost sugar for canning early crops. A second 10 pound ration stamp will be valid not later than August 1.

Record crowd attends Floresville commencement exercises
A large crowd estimated around 1000 gathered in the Floresville high school auditorium Monday evening May 26 at 8 00 PM to witness 34 seniors receive diplomas. Mrs N F Woolsey Jr at the piano led a processional as graduates took their places on stage. Rev J W Black gave the invocation and Miss Ethel Sellers delivered the salutatory. Miss Joan Varnon gave the valedictory and Mr Pat H Norwood spoke on youth and civic duties. Diplomas were presented by Vice President W T Clay and Supt E L Wildman.

Herman Lipke Buried in Elm Creek Lutheran Cemetery
Herman Lipke, 58, died April 30 at the home of Harry Brietzke in New Berlin Guadalupe county. He was buried at Elm Creek Lutheran Cemetery near New Berlin on May 2. He had been ill about a month and died of a heart attack. Lipke never married, was born in Wilson county, and was a World War I veteran. A short service was held at Goetz Funeral Home in Seguin.
