Larry Joe Richardson of Floresville is selected to participate in the 1971 Texas American Legion Boys State session at the University of Texas in Austin from June 5 to June 12. About 820 boys have enrolled statewide. two delegates will later attend Boys Nation in Washington, D.C. The program trains youths in state government and civic duties, with Floresville’s post and local Lions Club funding support.

Farmers Home Administration state director Lynn Futth says additional emergency loan funds are requested by President Nixon and more applications are being taken. Since spring 1970, Texas has received 1,503 emergency loans to aid farmers and ranchers facing severe drought losses across 235 counties. Loans carry 7 8 percent interest, repayable as feasible, with county FmHA offices handling locations and eligibility.

Wilson County Deputy Rudy Rodriguez completed an over 200 hour Narcotic Division course in Austin Texas, first Texas state offering. He scored 100 on the final test and earned eligibility for an Intermediate Certificate. 42 officers finished with professors and specialists from across the United States aiding the program. Skeleton Found Near Kosciusko Remains Unidentified
Wilson County Sheriff Asa Fuller Jr and deputies answered a May 5 call at Alvin Pruski place three miles north of Kosciusko after a broken irrigation pipe uncovered a skeleton about 18 inches underground. Myers Funeral Home of Stockdale assisted as remains were collected by Chief Deputy.

Floresville Principal Walter B. Williams Retires
Floresville Elementary marks the retirement of Walter B. Williams after 38 years in Texas public schools. Williams served 17 years in Floresville, led Floresville High School as social studies and math teacher, headed Floresville Jr High for six years, and led the Elementary School for nine years. He previously taught in Guadalupe and Lee counties and was superintendent of Dime Box School District for seven years. He earned a BSc and master's from SWT University and plans to stay in Floresville.
