A district wide soil stewardship program held May 16 in Wiley Seale Auditorium Floresville drew 75 attendees amid threatening clouds. Students from Stockdale La Vernia and Floresville presented The Tasks of Stewardship with talks on soil water conservation national and local duties and farmers role. Fort Worth Press essay winner Janice Linne from La Vernia read her conservation essay.

The Floresvie Cubs defeated the Pleasanton Oilers 17 to 2 in a home game to claim disputed third place. The Cubs pounded 19 hits with Richard Talamantez Louis Jung and Manuel Cantu homering. Talamantez inside the park homer highlighted a night where every Cub starter had a hit at least once. Louis Jung earned the mound win while Jung and the Oilers battled through seven innings.

The historic Whitehall in La Ver nia is named a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. John Ben Shepperd of Odessa, president of the Texas State Historical Survey, announces the award plus an interpretive plate by the Official Texas Historical Building Medallion. A certificate will be presented by Mrs. Joe Shriber of the Wilson County Historical Survey Committee, noting Whitehall built 1847 1851 by Joseph H. Polley and its role guarding the Runaway Scrape.

The Poth Elementary Closing Assembly and Eighth Grade Graduation were held in the High School Gymnasium on Friday morning May 21 1965. Awards honored students from Grades One through Eight with Stella De La Zerda receiving the Scholarship Medal and Lawrence Jansky named All Around Student. Navy Reserve seaman called to two year active duty tour
Seaman Charlies Evan Gustaf, has served one year in the Navy Reserve and reported to Charleston South Carolina on May 17 for a two year active duty tour awaiting assignment to the Atlantic fleet. A 1962 Floresville high school graduate, he lettered in football and track in 1961 and 1962. He is the son of Lieut. Col. and Mrs. C. J. Gustot of Floresville.
