Wilson County eyes facility to hold INS detainees
Wilson County plans a new detention center next year to house Other Than from Mexico immigrants for INS. The Wilson County Public Facility Corporation formed with a five member board. A public hearing is set for Monday June 12 at 1 p.m. to address concerns with an attorney present. The Lake Livingston Polk County model supports a 500 detainee capacity, with a need for 500 more. Detainees from Mexico would not be housed. Participants include Judge Marvin Quinney Sheriff Joe D Tackitt Jr and County Auditor Ray Wolff.

Wildfire consumes home and 700 acres in Wilson County
Edwin Baker, Wilson County fire marshal, says winds of 10 to 20 mph and low humidity created ripe fire conditions as a large wildfire scorched 600 to 700 acres. One house on CR 105 was heavily damaged while Floresville, Eagle Creek, Stockdale, Three Oaks, and Path volunteer fire departments fought the blaze. Deputy first on scene alerted authorities and led efforts to protect the home.

Floresville Holds June 10 Runoff for Mayor and School Board
Floresville city officials and the school board set June 10 as the date for a mayoral runoff and a school board runoff after May 13 results. Danny Tejada leads city votes, facing Josie Herrera. Beaver Wallace and Ken Leonhardt each had 132 votes for the school board. Early voting runs May 30 to June 5 with extended hours June 2 and 5. City voters vote at City Hall, school board voters at the district office on Tenth Street. An extra city vote for Debbie Bolf was added by mail.

Library operations questioned by Friends group
Friends of the Library complained to commissioners about understaffing and closing the library during normal hours. They criticized doors being locked at 10 a.m. for the summer reading program, preventing late arrivals from joining.
