Floresville school commencement exercises were well attended with many out of town visitors. Dr. P. B. Hill delivered an inspiring baccalaureate sermon Sunday night. Hon. H. H. Ochs gave the able commencement address Monday evening. Programs were enjoyed by all attendees.
Floresville closes a fine year with a large attendance as 55 graduates receive diplomas. Commencement was marked by a baccalaureate service, floral stage decor, and a sermon by Dr. P. B. Hill of San Antonio. Miss Catherine Paulus named Duchess of Floresville for the Yoakum Tom Tom coronation. Governor Allred among attendees.
Washington scene reveals battle over 1924 law granting veterans a $302 monthly pension after the war. The clash centers on how Congress finally addressed job support for returning soldiers and the broader social cost of the bonus.
The Wilson County Produce Growers Association will meet next Tuesday May 28 at 8 o clock at the Chamber of Commerce in Floresville to transact business. All onion growers and those interested in truck and produce growing and marketing are invited. H D Hierholzer President.
Sacred Heart School pupils present a two act play Patty Saves The Day on Sunday May 26 at 8 p.m. in the school auditorium. County Superintendent J E Swift will give an address after the play and diplomas and certificates will be awarded by Very Rev P P Zarb. Cast includes Miss Nelson the Pet Teacher M E Richardson Masie Marsh and Helen Hilton.
State Adjutant of the American Legion of Texas will speak at a Memorial Day observance in Floresville on Sunday May 26 at 8 15 pm in the high school auditorium. The event is a joint program by Wilson County Priest No 38 and the Legion Auxiliary with city churches and civic clubs participating. The ceremony includes Advancing of Colors, song, invocation by Rev A A Carter, hymn Rock of Ages, memorial sermon by Rev Theo Winter, tribute to Wynn Seale by Judge W O Murray, memorial address by Fred E Young, song Star Spangled Banner, retirement of colors and benediction by Rev J T Howard. Mr. and Mrs J B Connally visited San Antonio last Saturday.
Five Wilson county farmers returned from the Farmer Special to Washington with enthusiasm after meeting President Roosevelt and Congress. S. W. Teas of Floresville led the group home after his son’s illness. Teas praised the reception and the White House address while noting the delegates’ shared belief in farmers’ interests.
Checks totaling 28176.26 arrive as the first cotton rental payments for 1935. Distribution planned for Stockdale on May 28 and May 30, with Floresville offices available on other days. County Farm Agent A A Storey Sr notes Floresville as an early county recipient.
Floresville friends report Rollins Teas son of Mr and Mrs W S Teas is slightly improved from a serious pneumonia illness in El Paso. He fell ill Tuesday night of last week and his mother went to his bedside Wednesday. His father returned from Washington Saturday night and left for El Paso accompanied by H J Ridout and McLeary Myers. A telegram from relatives said Rollins passed the crisis Wednesday night and was some better.
The Chronicle Journal reports Wilson County onion growers near Floresville and Path anticipate about 150000 in revenue this season with Poth Floresville and Floresville Path leading shipments. Payrolls for onion harvest hands hit a record 18000 as First City National Bank paid out this sum to onion buyers.
Miss Ruth Nell Anderson, 16, Floresville High School graduate, completed ten years of continuous attendance with perfect days and only a few tardies, after skipping third grade to advance two grades in one year. Her record stands as a near unprecedented Texas achievement in school attendance.
