Floresville Post Office Holds 1996 NALC Food Drive
The sixth annual drive on May 11 1996 raised about 2000 pounds of non perishable food and gift certificates from local stores. City and Rural Route Carriers collected items placed by neighbors and donated them to the Floresville Food Bank for distribution to local families.

Sharp Delivers May Sales Tax Rebates In Texas
State Comptroller John Sharp announced 196.8 million in May sales tax rebates to 1 079 cities and 115 counties, up 1.4 percent from last year. City rebates totaled 181.3 million, county payments 15.4 million, reflecting audit collections and quarterly returns from March, January and February.

New Wilson County Jail Opens Housing Federal Inmates
The new Wilson County Jail on Hwy 1 1 Floresville replaces the old facility and will house county inmates plus federal prisoners. Maggie Ward To Stand Trial As Adult In Shooting Death
State District Judge Stella Saxon ruled that 17 year old Maggie Ward may be tried as an adult for the shooting death of her mother Janet Ward. Ward was 16 at the time. Bond set at 200000 dollars on a murder charge. no trial date yet. Janet Ward taught at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Floresville and served as a part time minister at Emmanuel Assembly of God Church in Poth.

Floresville High School sent Casey C. Bump and Eric C. Laskowski to the 1996 American Legion Boys State in Austin Texas. Sponsored by Floresville American Legion Post 38 the program runs at the University of Texas from June 7 with about 900 attendees. The two boys will learn about government processes and democratic participation while representing Floresville and Falls City.
